Fastned launches their operations in Denmark
Fastned opened its first charging station in Denmark, marking the beginning of the Dutch company’s operations in Scandinavia.
Located in Helsingør, the station features four fast chargers delivering up to 400kW power. It strategically caters to EV drivers in the coastal city and those heading to Sweden on the Helsingør-Helsingborg ferry.
The station in Helsingør is part of a tender won by Fastned in July 2023 to build a total of three hubs. Grevinge and Langeskov Syd will be opened later this year. The Grevinge station will also have four chargers on the busy route between Copenhagen and Aarhus. The third and biggest location, Langeskov Syd, will boast 16 chargers as part of a major charging hub along the E20, where the long Great Belt and the New Little Belt bridges connect continental Europe with the Danish capital of Copenhagen.
Regarding the Helsingør hub, Fastned said the station became operational “in record time” as it went live only five months after the contract award. The company added the collaboration with the municipality and the Danish road authorities, Vejdirektoratet, had been “pivotal” in the realisation of the project. Mette Lene Jensen, Head of the Climate and Sustainability Committee and Deputy Mayor of Helsingør, attended the opening.
“Helsingør is a city where climate change is already leaving its mark on the environment, as many coastal areas suffer first from extreme weather patterns,” said Frederik Heesch Hansen, Country Manager Denmark at Fastned. “We aim to contribute to the development of a reliable and efficient fast charging infrastructure, supporting the country’s transition to electric mobility, which is crucial in curbing climate change.”
“Growing our network in Denmark aligns with our broader commitment to building a comprehensive network of fast charging stations across Europe, with the goal of reaching 1,000 stations by 2030. The Danish government has set a goal of having one million electric vehicles on its roads by 2030. This will require a strong network of fast charging stations and Fastned is here to help build that infrastructure,” Caro de Brouwer, Director Network Development at Fastned, said.
